๐Ÿฅณ๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰ Itโ€™s been ONE YEAR of Mostly Good!! ๐Ÿช…๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’ƒ

365 days, baybeeee (are you sick of me yet? jk)

(What is this? An occasional newsletter that's 80% good news, 20% weird stuff, 100% interesting.)

Folks, itโ€™s been ๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿ‘ ONE WHOLE ASS YEAR of Mostly Good newsletters! Not just a half ass, a WHOLE ASS! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

First of all, what is time? โณ A year has passed already?! Secondly, Mostly Good is consistently one of the top things I look forward to every few weeks. ๐Ÿ’– Itโ€™s provided me with a reason to search for the happy, funny and weird stuff in life, and has impacted my life for the better. ๐Ÿฅฐ๏ธ Finding Mostly Good stories truly is a feel-good activity for me, and being able to express myself in funny/cheeky ways is freeing! I love sharing the insides of my brain sometimes ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿง .

๐Ÿ’ THANK YOU for joining me on this journey, I only hope that Mostly Good has made your days even a Little Good. ๐Ÿ’

I have plans this year to make Mostly Good a bigger thing, but details on that later, wink wink.

This edition, weโ€™re talking about the benefits of writing/journaling โœ๏ธ and how to stay chill/retain your sanity when the weather is miserable โ„๏ธ๐ŸŒจ (for all my Eastern Canadian and US folks, how are you holding up dawg? This winter has been BRUTAL! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ) and some details on why celebrating is good for you! ๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿพ

Letโ€™s get to it.

Whatโ€™s Good and New

๐Ÿฅ‚๐Ÿพ Ever wonder why we celebrate things? It seems to be a natural thing, to want to party with our besties when something good happens. Celebrating activates the brainโ€™s reward system ๐ŸŽ, boosting motivation and life satisfaction, and fosters social support (which is really healthy for strengthening relationships). It also can help solidify lessons learned, and can influence young peopleโ€™s ๐Ÿง’ intentional future actions. Cool huh? Who knew parties could shape who we are?!

I know itโ€™s tough but we really need to find ways stay sane during this bleak time of year ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ˜› (if you live in a place with seasons, you know what Iโ€™m talking about). Come up with a routine that includes as much sunlight as possible during the day โ˜€๏ธ, make movement a priority๐Ÿ•บ, eat whatโ€™s in season, and stay connected to people (donโ€™t be too much of a hermit, although hermit mode is totes acceptable once in a while.) ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿคโ€๐Ÿง‘ All of the above is great for staying positive, making time pass, and keeps you from feeling despair in such harsh conditions ๐ŸŒน

Writing is so hot right now. โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ“” Expressive writing is scientifically linked to better mood, improved well-being and reduced stress levels. I TOLD you writing Mostly Good was a feel-good activity and this research backs it up ๐Ÿ˜‰ It boosts immune function, reduces stress-related illness, and helps regulate the nervous system. Benefits appear even after just 15 minutes of writing! Writing is also super powerful for processing emotions (positive and negative), and helping in therapeutic practices. It also serves as an "external hard drive" for your brain! ๐Ÿง  (more fun facts about writing below).

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“– Read a book if youโ€™re going to go into hermit mode this winter (itโ€™s ok to be a hermit once in a while!) Exercise that brain baby, fire up that dorsomedial prefrontal cortex! Reading fiction can help process social interactions and improves your imagination, creativity, problem solving skills, and supports comprehension and empathy. ๐Ÿ’— All good (and necessary!) stuff we need in todayโ€™s world.

Fun Factoids of The Week

  • ๐ŸŽญ Rio de Janeiroโ€™s Carnival is considered the worldโ€™s largest celebration in the world. Held annually the week before Lent, it was traditionally a cathartic release before the period of religious observance. Each year Carnival is celebrated by over 2 million people who flock to Brazil just for this event! Music, dancing, arts and food ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฒ โ€“ sign me up!

  • ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บThe longest dance party ever recorded lasted 55 hours and took place in Wexford, Ireland. That doesnโ€™t sound fun actually. Like did they do dance shifts for this 55 hour party? ๐Ÿค” I need more details.

  • ๐Ÿฅ‚ Toasting is a classic party tradition, and different cultures have their own unique way of expressing goodwill before taking a drink. In Germany, if you clink glasses without making eye contact, then both drinkers get seven years of bad luck! In Japan, the more senior of two drinkers will always touch glasses above the rim of the otherโ€™s glass as a display of rank. ๐Ÿป Talk about a power move.

  • ๐Ÿ“– โœ๏ธThe act of writing accesses your left brain, which is analytical and rational. While your left brain is occupied, your right brain is free to be creative! Well then, my right brain must be as free as an unbridled horse because the shit in there be running WILD! ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ

  • ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿง  Studies show that regular journaling promotes neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to form new neural connections. โ†”๏ธ Meaning that journaling may actually rewire the brain for better emotional regulation and stress management, and I think everyone on planet earth could benefit from this right now lolol

Useful Stuff

  • ๐Ÿฅถ๏ธ If youโ€™re living in sub-zero temps right now like I am and you own a vehicle, make sure your ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ”‹ car battery is in top shape because my car battery died while I was at a party on Saturday and it was SO ANNOYING to deal with (also CAA can you sponsor me)

  • ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒฑ There are 38 days left until Spring! You can do this! Thatโ€™s just over a month, itโ€™s not so bad! Make sure to follow the tips above for withstanding this miserable time of year and weโ€™ll all make it out alive!!

  • ๐Ÿš˜ ๐Ÿ›ฃ Schedule your spring tire swap appointment now, so your future self will look back at your February self and think, damn that bitch had her SHIT TOGETHER like wow

  • ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฅ–๐Ÿฅ™ Eat your fibre. I bet youโ€™re not eating enough. Nobody is eating enough. We need to eat like cows. Itโ€™s a huge problem. Hereโ€™s a list of fibre rich foods for ya. Youโ€™re welcome.

Anyways thatโ€™s all for this edition, folks. Thank you for embarking on this weird ride with me, I appreciate yโ€™all so much ๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’ž. Please forward to a friend if you think itโ€™ll make their day Mostly Good!

๐Ÿค— Have a wonderful week and stay hydrated๐Ÿšฐ !
