🗣🤰Word to Your Mother 🗣🤰

💐 Happy May from Mostly Good! 💐

(What is this? An occasional newsletter that's 80% good news, 20% weird stuff, 100% interesting. Subscribe for a biweekly dose of Mostly Good stuff!)

🌷 It’s the first newsletter of May! 🌷  The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, the crows are eating the trash out of my green bin, the flies are multiplying in my bathroom sink drain, the allergies are allergy-ing… it’s a beautiful time of year. 😍

☝️A couple of things that are crucial to mention in today’s newsletter: Sunday is Mother’s Day in North America, and May is also Asian Heritage Month in Canada, and I am an ✨Asian Canadian Mother ✨, therefore I am celebrating extra hard this weekend. 🥳️💃🍰. Yay me!! (And yay to all the respectable mothers out there!)

Yay me

Since it’s Friday and I am busy AF (because I’m celebrating being an Asian Canadian Mom all weekend 🇵🇭), I’ve decided to make this newsletter edition full of memes and fun tidbits. I’ll keep the meatier stuff for the next newsletter. 🥩

So, enjoy these fun facts, and if you know any bad ass moms or have a motherly figure in your life that you appreciate, please tell them how much they mean to you. And maybe drop off some flowers and tacos? 🤷🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️ Just a suggestion. 🌮💗

Some Mom Memes

The Crocs really complete the look.

OMG get to the point

💦💦💦

Get me out of here

Fun Facts: Asian Edition

Like I mentioned earlier, May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada, and not too long ago May was once recognized as Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the United States. Since I’m Canadian, I’m going to go ahead and celebrate this month on behalf of all Asians, and to all my AANHPI identifying American friends and allies, feel free to join in on the Canadian festivities ☺️

  • 🇹🇭 Western Thailand is home to the smallest mammal on earth: the Kitti’s hog-nosed bat, or bumble bee bat 🐝🦇

  • 🇻🇳 Vietnam exports more than a third of the world’s supply of cashews (damn that’s a lot of nuts)

  • 🇹🇭 Thailand is the only country in southeast Asia that has not been colonized by Europeans 🤔

  • 🥠 Fortune cookies were made by Americans, not China, and were first imported to Hong Kong in 1908

Fun Facts: Mom Edition

  • 🤱 The first thing most babies can vocalize is the 'ma' sound, which is why in almost every language the word for mother begins with the letter 'M' or is some iteration of the 'ma' sound

  • 🐋 Blue whale moms produce 50 gallons of milk a day (I had to throw in an animal mum fact!)

  • 🧬️ Mothers carry bits of their children’s DNA in their bodies and blood FOREVER (read this fascinating article to learn more!)

  • 🦷️ Moms are more prone to tooth decay and tooth loss (something about how children leech nutrients from our bodies, resulting in weakened teeth and bones)

🤔 About that last fun fact: I can attest to the tooth thing. Once upon a time, I was that patient that NEVER had cavities. I’m pretty sure my dentist told me once that I had the enamel of a god. For a solid 30 years, I was virtually cavity free. Then after children, I have lost a tooth, cracked another, and have had 6 cavities in under 10 years. My children have leeched the calcium from my body. My children better fund my dentures in a few years. 💰💰💰

Anyway.

💘 Have a BEAUTIFUL weekend, be kind, be polite, be patient, and try to pet a dog at some point. HAPPY FRIDAY Y’ALL!

Awkward fist bump,

Steph
